Time for Thierry to return?

Whilst Arsene Wenger received the plaudits for cashing in on Monsieur Henry when he did, life for the Frenchman has taken a much different turn.

Known for his devastating turn of pace, nimble feet and eye for goal, Henry has struggled to make an impression in a side containing Samuel Eto’o, Ronaldihno and Lionel Messi, whereas at Arsenal, Henry was very much the star with the fast car – va va voom, as he once said in a vehicle advert.

And surely there would be no shortage of midtable clubs willing to take Henry back to the Premiership to lift them out of the mediocrity mire?

Would you like to see Henry at your club? Would Arsenal fans welcome the prodigal son back? Only time and a summer will tell.

Young and Bon; Capello can fly with two new wings

The pace of the modern game is such that a player with the speed and acceleration to beat a man, or five in Theo Walcott’s case, is an invaluable asset to any team. To have two such players in the same side is a luxury no manager can afford to ignore.

Thus Martin O’Neill hasn’t and the recent bout of predatory Aston Villa attacks has been the rich reward of a season in which the Ulsterman has trusted his two speedsters, Ashley Young and Gabriel Agbonlahor, to terrorise defences and plunder goals.

Listening to Radio 5 Live this morning, I was delighted to hear the words “Midtable” and “Mediocrity” together in a sentence.

Mark Benton (the Nationwide advert King) was talking to Sam Delaney about his beloved Middlesbrough team and Sam posed the question as to who was the better midtable team…well there was only likely to be one answer from the Teeside lad.

But fancy mentioning Midtable Mediocrity and not giving us a credit?! And to add insult to injury there was a glaring error – clearly Spurs are the best (yet mediocre) midtable team.
